Hello friends, it is extremely humbling to be asking for your help. On May 27th, we took our mom, Cindy Lawrence, to the ER with symptoms that we hoped were a quick fix with a reasonable explanation. She was diagnosed with a tennis ball sized brain tumor and brain swelling after severe migraine symptoms and debilitating nausea and weakness over the past weekend. Based on her MRI, they anticipate the tumor is malignant and due to the very large size, believe it has been growing undetected for quite some time.
She will be transferred to Sayre today for surgery on Friday afternoon, May 30th, to remove and biopsy the tumor and to determine next steps. The neurosurgeon is confident it can be successfully removed based on the location and thankfully it has not spread to other parts of her body. We anticipate she will be in the ICU in Sayre for at least a week, rehab after, and many follow up visits once able to return home. At this point in time, her doctors expect her to be recovering for a while with pain management and fatigue. We will know more after the biopsy results come back.
Living on a small family farm and mom retired from her teacher’s aide position, money is incredibly tight and we know our mom is worrying about how to pay for all the additional expenses that will come with this diagnosis and recovery. We wholeheartedly appreciate any amount of support for them to help ease their worries over their expenses while my mom recovers and next steps are figured out.
We do request for no visitors to their house or any calls to my dad at this time, as my dad also tries to process all of what is happening and would prefer not to talk about it at this time in his own way of coping. Thank you for understanding.
We thank Guthrie Lourdes Hospital for all of their swift and kind care the last few days and a therapy dog visit from pup Maverick that my mom really enjoyed last night.
